Peer review

I am reflecting on Chloe Ian, Zhefu Li, Ruobing Bai’s  final project.

I really like the design of your website, it’s very attractive and makes the reader want to have the desire to read on because of those colorful pictures. Our group also did PLN related to the pandemic. But what we did was the pandemic affected all aspects of our lives and how PLN helped us and impacted our lives. I think your group’s ideas are also very good, respectively in terms of the impact, benefits and importance of PLN for us under the epidemic. I think there is indeed a lot to explain and analyze on these points. I especially like each of the examples you gave. Because those help me to understand the points you want to analyze very well. Some of the examples I can relate to my own daily life very well. My personal experience allows me to bring in more. This is one of the points I really like about your group, and each point is explained very clearly for the reader.

Anyway, it is really nice to hear your guys thoughts and your project is clear and concise. Thank you for sharing~ 🙂

Consider our guest and their steps in building a podcast relying on a PLN. Can your PLN be used to help professional development post-course? If yes, how? If no, what limitations exist? Can your PLN be relied on to open professional

1、Publish the topics that fans are most concerned about

Collect the questions that fans are most concerned about, and then make an answer, so as to solve the content of fans’ problems, and it is easy to. This way, the content can solve the fans’ problems, and it is easy to cause re-posting. After forwarding, the user’s friends will see it and be interested in it, so they will follow us. This is equivalent to real sharing promotion.

2、Forward fans’ comments

If we forward it to him, the user will feel valued and will get closer to us. At the same time some good reviews can be used as fan testimonials to increase the trust of other users who did not deal with us. Some problematic comments, after we forward them, can be seen by many people, which can reduce the work of customer service.

3, timely reply to fans’ comments

People have feelings, who want to be valued by others, after others give their comments, especially some problematic comments, they want to get our answer as soon as possible, if they are waiting for a few days, ten days to reply, then people are not interested. The timely response to fans’ comments, on the one hand, can answer the user’s questions in a timely manner, on the other hand, can also let the user feel valued, which is very helpful to enhance the trust of fans.

4、Answering fans’ problems

When a fan asks some questions related to our products, if we solve the problem, he will have a good feeling about us and improve trust. When a fan doesn’t know what kind of product is suitable for him before buying, and we give him professional advice to choose the product more wisely, and we also have such a product, then the user will be more inclined to buy ours. If users buy our products, when there is a problem they do not understand, we give him a solution to help him solve the problem, and will improve the satisfaction of after-sales service.

5、Activities

Activities can make users feel the surprise and excitement. Although we will provide valuable information, but the user psychology already has expectations, at first may feel that the daily information is very good, but later feel that it is the right thing to do. The occasional activities, and each activity is different, so that users can feel a sense of freshness, on the one hand, can stimulate new users to quickly enhance trust in us, on the other hand, can also enhance the attraction of old users.

6、Sincere attitude

Some people think that attitude is a false thing, as long as some points that need to be noticed are enough, because people tend to follow a certain pattern, as long as you can trigger a few key points in this pattern, it will be able to make users like you. Nevertheless, there is a fundamental difference between a robot and a real person with real feelings and willing to think about the customer from the heart. For example, some stewardesses are very beautiful and smiling, but when you enter the cabin, she says welcome, but her eyes are looking at the long queue behind you, you will feel that this person is hypocritical. A person who wants to serve you from the heart, you are able to feel his part of the sincerity. For example, you asked me a question, a question you have been puzzled by, I said I would try to help you solve, you did not have too much hope, but after a few days, I told you the answer. If you do not really want to serve you, why should I bother to help you solve a problem that few people know the answer to ah. The above points probably explain how to interact with users, the specific implementation of the operation, the need for each person’s specific situation to implement, I hope that in the micro-marketing this road, the more we do better and better.

– What is media literacy?

Media literacy is a person’s attitude and ability to recognize, judge, and use media. It refers to people’s ability to choose, understand, question, evaluate, create, produce, and respond discursively when faced with various information in the media.

– Why is it important?

Therefore, the cultivation of social media literacy is relevant to all of us, which not only helps us create a harmonious online environment, but also makes us more comfortable and efficient when surfing the Internet. Especially for teenagers, who are in the critical period of physical and mental development, the correct guidance of the Internet environment is especially important, and the high attention to media literacy can strengthen their ability to discriminate information and cultivate their critical thinking, which is beneficial to a rational online communication atmosphere.

– Why is it dismissed?

In the information society, the amount of information is increasing at an exponential function, and people are enjoying unprecedented information convenience. The development of Internet technology, the continuous updating of self-media communication means, especially the realization of interactive communication means, enable the public to use interactive network platforms such as microblogs to realize the dissemination of information in large quantities. In the huge and complex information dissemination network, the massive information dissemination also means the existence of a large amount of superficial and redundant information. Modern information technology has greatly shortened the timeliness of information dissemination, and information from half an hour ago may become tomorrow’s yellow flowers, and a large amount of outdated information is deposited in the communication network. Superficial and vulgarized information dissemination has become a persistent problem in self-media communication. In order to increase the number of clicks, social network platforms are full of unpleasant photos, vulgar and provocative words, and offensive remarks, which not only seriously affect the effective transmission and processing speed of information, but also greatly increase the difficulty for users to obtain and use effective information.

– Why should you aim for varied views but the factual consensus in your PLN?

With the widespread use of information technology in society, the issue of information ethics has become increasingly prominent. The public in the era of self-media communication is directly involved in the production and dissemination of information, and coupled with the untimely and inadequate supervision, more and more moral and ethical problems gradually appear in the information exchange, which affects the harmonious development of society. Avoiding and reducing the negative influence of self-media and building a harmonious and healthy cultural communication environment are important issues facing self-media communication at present. However, external norms can only work through internal factors, and the public can only correctly understand the whole picture of the event or product information if they learn to adhere to ethics in the interactive exchange of information, and interpret and navigate in the flooded sensual information space.

There are more and more social apps for learning. One app I use a lot is called “Learn Wave”, an extension of Tik Tok, which is a combination of video and zoom like the YouTube education channel. We can choose to have offline live classes or recorded classes. Of course, we will have a class group like a group chat where students can talk to their classmates and teachers at the end of the class. The teacher can also put the materials and PowerPoint for the class in the classroom group. This way, students can review the materials given by the teacher during class. Students can socialize and discuss the lessons they have learned through the class group after class. There are also rewards for clocking in and out every day. There is also an app for language learning, called Duolingo. Duolingo is a free app/website with courses and activities in 38 different languages. Their missions are to provide personalized language learning, to make language learning fun, and to be accessible to everyone around the world. The goal is to complete activities to win rewards and unlock new categories and levels. There are also a lot of strengths. Variety of game-based activities, very user-friendly, opportunities for incidental and intentional learning, audio and visual stimulation, some real-world content/vocabulary, offers opportunities for implicit learning and explicit instruction, algorithms that help determine the appropriate learning levels of each member, incentives/challenges to encourage participation, podcast, story, and community features allow opportunities for output. These apps are all social apps that contribute to the education industry.

What are the benefits of a diverse and inclusive PLN in social media sharing that understands where you are coming from with messaging that impacts the community?

Social media is a tool and platform where users can share their views and experiences with each other. Diversity in social media comes into play when it comes to understanding and learning more about a subject you want to know. For example, you are a student of child and youth care. You’re mostly learning about children’s mental and behavioral health and such. However, you need to study the legal aspects of children in order to officially get your certificate. Since you know nothing about the law, you want to learn about it online in advance. Of course, I believe there are very many videos and articles online to teach you about the law. These videos and articles create a lot of convenience for you and reduce your nervousness about the unknown and knowledge. Of course, this is only a part of social media. We can also spontaneously ask our own questions and wait for people on social media to answer your questions. For example, we can post on Twitter with some relevant #tag and there will be helpful people to help you answer your confusion. I think the benefit of this is that it allows people from different areas of knowledge to come together and discuss more other issues together and help people in need. This not only helps you to consolidate your knowledge in this area but also helps others to answer their questions. As Markiel Simpson said in the video, everyone has their own value. I really agree with this statement. Everyone’s background experience is different. You post your opinion and attitude about something on social media, and it will be seen by all kinds of people. Maybe some of the things you experience are happening to other people. Other people may be deeply troubled by this very thing, such as being cheated out of money. Maybe that person sees your post about how you handled the situation and how you recovered the money, and that person’s mind becomes better. That means you help other people. Even if you don’t know each other, you have helped him with your own experience. Your experience is your own value, and that can’t be bought with money. So, the benefits of a diverse media are also very many.

Identify the risks and benefits of engaging with a public audience in a media space – what are the risks for a public figure or person in a position of trust (educator, lawyer, government official)?

The internet itself is a risky place. Every word we post online, a picture, a video is sent out on our own behalf. Others judge what kind of person you are by the words and pictures you send out. For example, one day a movie you are in becomes a hit, and then you become a star. Everyone likes you based on the character you played in the movie. When your fans see some of your previous posts and photos on social media that don’t meet their heart’s expectations, they may lose their emotions. Because those are the traces you have left on the Internet, those traces will not disappear easily, so they are rehashed by anyone on the Internet, mocking and abusing. The things you have done, anything posted on the Internet, such as ugly photos, did ugly things, will be known to everyone. This is when you are likely to be attacked online. Even people start to create rumors, under your post wantonly scold you. It’s not just celebrities who will do this, but all kinds of public figures can be the target of attacks. So we should be more careful about what we post and say on the internet.

How to best address negative replies and critiques reflective of your personal values and employer social media policy?

If you have encountered a spammer, then it means that your words have already had some impact. At first we all pretend to be full of it, immune to negative comments. This may be a form of defense, you call you out, I don’t care. but for most people, this isn’t their truest thought, and the truth is: these negative comments really, really, hurt, people. If you can’t deal with this shit, it will affect your own life and affect your ability to do the right thing. It’s not just celebrities and public figures who are subject to public criticism, we all face some criticism from others at one time or another, maybe from acquaintances, maybe Ta knows very little about you, or maybe nothing at all. So, since we can’t live in a sterile vacuum, how do we face these spammers?

1, Ignore it. Block the information channels directly, and do your best to avoid seeing these negative comments. For example, some celebrities turn off their comments section, or open the comments section but do not read it at all, which is a good way to block their own view and avoid suffering. Although unpleasant words can be blocked, malice can always reach you in other ways.

2, Analyse it. Although most of the negative comments given by spammers are unconstructive and spewed, there is no shortage of one or two of them that may be really valuable advice. If you can do peace of mind, inclusive mentality, to see from the seemingly vicious words, they “to let you improve” the pain, then sit down, analyze it.

3, Deal with it if you do not want to look deep into these malicious pointers. Then, don’t take it personally and don’t feel that those words are directed at you. It’s important to practice a thick skin when dealing with spammers. Most importantly, our attitude in the face of the sprayers reflects whether we have independent and complete self-esteem. If self-esteem and self-worth are completely linked to the evaluation of others, then there is the possibility of a total collapse once opposing views are met. Therefore, we do not need to pay too much attention to the outside world’s approval, that is tantamount to self-trouble.

Building community with online tools provided by the employer can be limiting, what are the perceived restrictions and benefits?

The advantage is that we don’t have to worry about people who are not in our field of expertise coming to judge us. We are all in the same field and can discuss knowledge together. The downside is that it is too limited to this aspect of work. It’s not convenient to share everyday things, because the relationship between leaders and employees is usually very unclear whether they should share their daily life friends or just the work relationship.

How do those, who are veteran storytellers, minimize risk in sharing misinformation?

First of all, I think the waist pay attention to the way of using words. When telling the story, try to circumvent some words that are very absolute. For example: all, absolute, no one, much less impossible, and such similar words. Because there may be some exceptions that we do not know. Unless it is an objective fact, such as “apples are fruits”. Or you have absolute authority and sufficient knowledge in the field you want to publish your article. Most people will still believe most of what experts and professors say. Do enough research before you go posting on the web.

How would you create a PLN prior to engaging a social media campaign on a topic of your choice? Choose a topic, consider your audiences, and consider how you would crate a social media campaign leveraging your PLN.

The first thing I would do is to use video to promote it. Because video is more attractive than text to most young people to watch. Because now young people do not have a lot of time, now is a fast-paced life. The vast majority of people will choose a more time-saving way to receive information. Fewer and fewer people are reading newspapers, and most people are now learning about news and gaining knowledge through short video summaries of the essence of a few seconds. In addition to videos that attract more people, pictures are also a medium that can attract people to look at. Of course, people will see the video cover (picture) that attracts people’s attention before they click in to see the content of the video. So, when choosing a video cover we need to make the cover as attractive as possible for people to watch. We can show the most attractive images on the cover, such as a panoramic view of all the food, if you are doing food videos; funny or awesome moments, if you are doing games or lifestyle videos. Or if you are a beauty and clothing video, I think you can choose some of the best cosmetic collections or Ray products collections. The quality of the content goes up, and more and more people will watch it.

I will start some small business in the future, mainly selling bobble ball rose bouquets. If I want to have a good selling platform, I have to promote my goods first. I will probably take nice pictures of my products first. Since the bouquets have lights on them, they will look better at night, so I will mainly take pictures of them at night. Then I will put a series of photos with a popular song as BGM, organize them into a video and post it on the Internet. At the end of the day, if there are many sellers show, I will ask the seller’s opinion, their photos or videos will also be organized, and finally made into a video. Especially girls, when they receive a nice bouquet they will want to take nice videos and photos to record it. Using their photos and videos can also decorate my PLN. Birthday parties, holidays, Valentine’s Day, New Year’s Day, or anniversaries, people can buy bouquets. My audience is young people who have a more ritualistic life, so I will post videos or do some sales in the run-up to these holidays.

  • How diverse is your existing PLN?
    • Every day I keep switching between different social media. Each social media app has a very different purpose. Some of them are for chatting with friends and family, sharing personal life or party photos, and some of them are for expressing your emotions, like WeChat. Twitter and Weibo are for people around the world to see what you post as long as they have an account. I may post some less private photos or some posts that I want people to know me, and I will only post them to the public account. It’s mostly blogs and product promotion (because it’s called promotion only when more people can see the ads). So each PLN has different uses, and their diversity brings convenience to our lives.
  • In your PLN, are you learning from a variety of voices or are you the loudest in the room?
    • I usually just act as a listener or a spectator and learner. I don’t usually initiate chats or participate in discussions, I prefer to be a listener. I will only consider speaking up if I have some novel ideas on a topic that interests me. But when others are sharing their ideas, I will silently agree with them in my heart.
  • Do you participate in a silo of information sharing (similar themes or wide range of interests)?
    • Yes, I will participate in a silo of information sharing. For example, some chatting groups that share cooking, cats, school classes, fishing. There are always people in that group sharing good tips or funny stuff. Some groups are full of strangers, all of whom share a common hobby and are in the same group. I don’t really like chatting in groups with lots of strangers. Some groups are small groups of a few people. It may be that we are all in the same class at school, and some of them need to be done together, so it is better to discuss them in the same group.
  • How can you use a diverse PLN to broaden your views of inclusion?
    • People all over the world will not be exactly the same, just as they will all think differently. Each person has their own experience with the same issue and they may have a different perspective. Just like a group discussion, each person says a few words that create the final outcome of the group’s discussion, each person also learns a different perspective on the point of view. Yet a wide variety of PLNs can be shared by people from all over the world. They have different cultural backgrounds, different age groups, and different perspectives on things. Under the same news, everyone is commenting on their different ideas. It is really interesting to see all those differences.

This is Caroline’s map

• What digital platforms are students currently using to develop their professional network?

There are many digital platforms available for students to develop their professional network, and I usually use WeChat, Tik Tok, Little Red Book, Weibo and other social networking apps. (These are all commonly used in China). For example, Youtube, Instagram, Discord, LinkedIn, Facebook, even though they are all professional networks, everyone has different preferences for each software. are different. Personally, I think Weibo is more oriented to a wider group of users, from students to parents to older people. Students are more inclined to use Tik Tok because it is more oriented to young people. They can post videos, pictures, and live streams to promote their products or anything else. If there are a lot of plays or likes, they will be approached by businesses to promote their stuff and thus marketing. This way students can both make money and get exposure, so Tik Tok is a very good platform to offer to students.

• What could the student consider in expanding their professional learning network?

I think they can take some videos with other bloggers so that the fans of both families can get to know each other and thus may get more fans from each other’s side. There are also other platforms that you can try to promote again. Since everyone’s preferences are different, some people like to use Weibo, some like to use Instagram, some like to use Tik Tok, maybe from other platforms, there will be more people who like your video. Or add more tags on top of the posted video to fit the content of the video, there is a chance that more people will see from different tags.

  • Discover what an employer would find based on your V+R Map about you, if you applied for a job with them?

If I’m looking for a job, employers can see my professional information through the website I created. If they search for me on Youtube or some other video media, they will get videos that I have made (daily vlog which is a series of videos that document my daily life). If you search for me on Instagram, you will find photos of me and my cats. Of course we can communicate through Instagram or email if a company wants to hire me. Since I am very active in social media, I have some experience writing about this aspect of media. If this is a media company, being able to search online for information about me should help me in my job applying.
